SMS Multi-Sensor Synchronized Fusion SystemsThe data of multiple sensors are fed into data fusion tracking and classification algorithms run on the master. Up to eight Smartmicro sensors can be connected to one CAN network. The bus is conflict-free arbitrated using a proprietary time triggered CAN protocol which allows a very efficient exploitation of the limited CAN bandwidth. The network can be either internally or externally synchronized. For an optimum operation, not only the communication procedure, but also start and end time of a measurement cycle as well as Radar transmit waveform parameters can be synchronized. |

For automotive applications, the inter Radar communication is in most cases implemented via CAN or FlexRay bus.
For the control of such a network a multi-sensor systems processing hardware can be used. This small box hosts the sensor data fusion and tracking algorithms. Sophisticated data association, synchronization and object tracking algorithms are performed. They can even generate a 360 degree picture of the traffic around a vehicle. Such sensor data fusion algorithms comprise also the combination of Radar detections and the vehicle dynamics data of the host car (for ego motion compensation, lane prediction, lane history etc.). |
